Kuching: KD MAHAWANGSA, a vessel of the Royal
Malaysian Navy (RMN) is more than willing to share its experience in
implementing the 5S management concept with government departments and
agencies.
Its commander-in-chief Capt Jamel Abdul
Rahman said the 5S system – which stand for “Sort, Set, Shine, Standardise and
Sustain” – had run smoothly and effectively in ensuring his ship would be ready
for spot checks any time.
“What we have achieved here should be shared
with others, provided they are interested to learn from our experience,” he
said.
“Since the implementation of the 5S system in
the ship, my officers need not to be told what to do because they all know
their roles.
“I should say that we practice complete
quality management in the ship and our officers are able to give what you want
in 30 seconds because everything is in place,” he said when briefing delegates
from the Malaysian Productivity Corporation (MPC) who visited the ship here
yesterday.
KD MAHAWANGSA had made history as the first
ship in the country to be awarded the 5S certification by the MPC last January.
