KD Mahawangsa: Pride of the navy




KUC H I N G : T h e R oy a l Malaysian Navy supply ship KD Mahawangsa has become the first navy ship to implement the 5-S practice since last January to make the crew more effective and ensure higher productivity.

KD Mahawangsa arrived at Pending Port where it impressed visitors including Datuk Abang Abdul Karim Tun Abang Openg, President of the Sarawak Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

“We have proven that the 5- S practice makes us effective,” said Captain Jamel Abdul Rahman.

He said that the effectiveness of the ship’s system will further assist to clean the environment, cut cost and encourage professionalism.

The ship had been dispatched to aid Afghan refugees in 2001 and send humanitarian supplies to the Indian Ocean earthquake victims in 2004.

KD Mahawangsa was also part of peacekeeping forces for Operation Astute during the 2006 East Timor crisis.

Apart from carrying out humanitarian missions, it participated in naval exercise in Thailand.

Apart from achieving 5-S certification from the Malaysia Productivity Corporation (MPC), the ship also gained a reputation for efficiency by obtaining the certificate of quality MS ISO 9001:2008 and OHSAS 18001:2007
